Since getting back to college from easter I have been working on my screen prints. They are for my piece 'An Investigation In To The Social Dynamics of a House Party.' I made the screens myself with a little help from the technician....I filmed this process which i will post on here soon. This took a whole day to do.
When the screens were ready to be used I tested printing on paper. I did 2 prints of each floor in green and two prints of each floor in red. The lines on each print did not come out identical some lines were darker than others, some lines had a few little gaps in them...however, there was enough information there for the viewer to recognise that the lines showed an architectural map. In fact I was very pleased with the way the lines turned out...I did not want a traditional architectural drawing(as in very precisie, perfect lines) as I do not find this visually exciting.
After doing some prints on paper I decided to my final prints on plywood. Next I found a sheet of wood with beautiful grain. I printed the downstairs plan on the left next to the upstairs plan on the right, below I left a space for me to put a plan of the front garden and a space for a key, so the whole piece is rather big about 1.5 meters by 3 meters. The ink used for the printing was a bluey, greay colour...its quite dark, i wanted the plan outline to stand out but not take over from the marks that were to be made inside it.
I feel though I am on target for the FMP ,however, it seems I have a few diverse ideas which could possibly be shown in the final exhibition - I need to decided which idea would best suit the show...
